So much changes when you have a baby and enter the world of motherhood.
From how you live your life, to the natural changes that your body goes through, pretty much everything is different – including your style.
It’s hard to dress a body that doesn’t feel quite the same as it used to!
Don’t panic. Every new mums feels this to a certain extent.
Follow these style rules to feel comfortable in your own skin after a new baby.
Accessories are Everything
It is important to never underestimate the power of accessories and how much they can make an impact on your outfit.
They require little effort, which is exactly what there’s so much else going on. But a pair of statement earrings, or an over-sized necklace or an Alice band can really pull an outfit together and help you to feel more dressed up.
Or add a scarf (this can be particularly useful when you’re breastfeeding) to bring a bit of colour to your look.
Wear the Right Footwear
If you’re running around on maternity leave, you’ll need a comfy pair of shoes but this doesn’t mean that they can’t be stylish. Gucci flats are available at luxury designer retailer SSENSE, for example. Or you can find them second hand on apps such as Depop and Ebay.
For trainers, you can find some pretty good lookalikes of brands such as Golden Goose and Veja on the high street. Or you could treat yourself to the real thing!
Go for a Dark Denim
Jeans will probably be your go-to item at this time of year.
A good pair of jeans can be difficult to find at the best of times, but they can be an even more difficult after you’ve had a baby. We recommend that you stick with dark denim, as it’s more flattering.
Maybe leave the high waisted Mom jeans until you’ve got your waist back; styles such as boyfriend, and anything with a bit of stretch tend to be most flattering in the early days. If you’re going for skinny jeans, try wearing it with an over-sized shirt, like this one from And Other Stories.
