Holidays are not what they once were, with a six month old in tow. I’m not quite sure why we found this so surprising, given that few aspects of our lives have remained unchanged, since our very own little baby bomb of joy exploded onto the scene in December.
However over the course of a couple of trips, we’ve discovered that there are things out there which can help. It is still possible to capture some sense of holiday wellbeing, especially if there are several pairs of extra hands to pass the baby to! But, if shipping out supper nanny or indeed super granny is not an option, then hopefully the following gadgets will go some way towards making your lives that bit easier…perhaps even enabling you to dip a toe ( heck, to immerse your whole body) in that ol’ pool of holiday tranquillity. Get glowing.
Baby Bjorn Travel Cot (pictured above) So speedy, so satisfying. Even the promotional video fills me with a reassuring sense of calm. In a word – neat; or, in other words – once you pop you just can’t stop.
Travel Grobag Sleep Sack Yes I need to say more…protects the sanctity of sleep and therefore the sanity of minds. Buy in the appropriate tog for your holiday destination, and you’re off….in the pram, buggy, cot or car seat…pheww.
Galt Inflatable Doughnut Play Nest A safe place to pop your poppet whilst you hop it – ha! (Disclaimer: never leave your child unattended)! Seriously though, it inflates, therefore it fits – space saver, life saver.
Tippitoes Doorway Bouncer Ditto above…ok so it doesn’t inflate, but take away the ‘i’, the ‘n’ and the ‘e’, and whadyahave – ‘flat’ – therefore it fits etc!… Clamp to any door frame, and let this ingenious device channel your baby’s excess energy into bouncing like a champ. Peace at last!
Baby Sling / Carrier Essential for walking your baby up and down the aeroplane aisle – either entertaining or sleep inducing for your little one – either way, it’s good news for you. Also useful when seeing the sights.
Phil and Ted’s Lobster or Metoo High Chair Compact, lightweight and versatile; these folding canvas seats attach securely to most table tops, meaning that your tot can enjoy fine dining…at the airport, on a ferry, al fresco, at the kitchen table, in the local deli, at the boutique restaurant…the list goes on and on.
Pampers Change Mats At the risk of repeating myself, these are: compact, lightweight and versatile. Unlike a high chair, they are also disposable – upon leaving, leave them and free up some much needed souvenir / duty free space. You’re welcome.
Miltons Sterilising Tablets O the glamorous life of a jet setter! So, the smell isn’t great, but they sure are handy. Plus, don’t forget to pack pre-sterilised, ready to use bottles and food pouches.
