This morning I lugged my poor, exhausted, body (too much wine last night) to Balance in SW4, for a postnatal core strength class. If I didn’t have to dress up as a belly dancer for a party next week I wouldn’t have bothered.
The first class is free – bonus – and Horatio was allowed to come too, which made the whole thing possible.
We both found the first bit quite fun – lying on our backs with our legs and arms in the air like a bug – but Horatio bowed out when the circuit training started, and ended up being held by the teacher, Sally Murray, (an obstetric physiotherapist), for the rest of the class. She usually ends up holding a baby, apparently.
First up was hula hooping – my abs got the shock of their life – and then a balance exercise with a kettle bell, bicycle kicks and side plank. And then we had to do the whole thing over again.
Followed by pelvic floor exercises.
Man, I deserved the coffee I went for afterwards in a great new place a few strides away from Balance called 7oz Coffee Roastery.
If you’ve just had a baby and live anywhere near Clapham/ Stockwell… GO to Balance.
As well as postnatal fitness classes (kettle bells, core, pilates) they also do specialist postnatal MOTs focussing on breastfeeding positions, exercise programmes and relaxation strategies, plus massage, pelvic floor physiotherapy and breastfeeding classes.
