Why every mamma needs a backpack this summer

For the past few months I’ve been following our blogger Ginnie CH’s advice and relying on a coat with very deep pockets rather than a changing bag. But what do you do when it is too warm for a jacket? I’m not a great fan of gilets….

Thank goodness then that rucksacks have become trendy again. A backpack is perfect for lugging around all your baby paraphernalia: more comfortable (and stylish) than an over-the-shoulder changing bag and suitable to wear with your baby carrier for the ultimate handsfree experience.

If you’ve got a portable changing mat and all the bottle warmers etc you need, there’s no need to buy a designated “baby” rucksack (although the Pacapod below is pretty cool).

Just make sure whatever you choose has wide straps (more comfortable on the shoulders), plenty of pockets and is easy to clean.

Here are three of our favourites:

Pacapod Hastings Driftwood

A reliable and sturdy travel companion that can adapt from messenger to backpack and has a practical, easy to pack, top loading style. Hastings is part of Pacapod’s new ‘Lite’ range, weighing in at just 725 grams and the new to flat pack feeder, changer pods and mat are simple to clean and fold away when not in use. Quality detailing, durable fabrics and a smart pin stripe print.

The Raven pack is simple and incredibly hardwearing making it perfect for adventures with your baby. Featuring loads of pockets and a laptop sleeve in case you feel like doing some work (or checking your Facebook).

Igor Luxe Nylon Rucksack

It’s not cheap but this huge nylon and leather rucksack is beautifully made and designed and incredibly roomy making it a perfect bag for parents seeking practicality without sacrificing style. With a signature wide opening, two large front pockets (that fit a bottle) and one interior pocket, it is incredibly useful for grabbing key items quickly and fitting in a lot of stuff. It also has the advantage of being water-resistant while weathering well the inevitable knocks, scrapes and spills of life with babies and children.
